Chief Melissa Santacruz, a 28 year veteran of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department, was promoted to the rank of Chief and assigned to the Patrol Operations Division on July 4, 2018. The Patrol Operations Division encompasses all of the Department's patrol stations and also oversees investigations and traffic units. The Patrol Operations Division provides uniformed patrol to all residents of Los Santos County.
Chief Santacruz's career with the Sheriff's Department began in March 1991, when she graduated the Sheriff's Academy and was assigned to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. She transferred to East Los Santos Station in 1992 and worked there until 2000, promoting to Sergeant in 1997. Chief Santacruz promoted to Lieutenant in 2000 and served as a Watch Commander at Twin Towers Correctional Facility. She also served as the Operations Lieutenant at Twin Towers Correctional Facility and in the Access to Care Bureau under the Custody Division. While in Access to Care Bureau, Chief Santacruz organized and supervised the administration of health care to all inmates in the county jail facility.
Chief Santacruz was selected to promote to Captain and was given command of the East Los Santos Sheriff's Station. East Los Santos Station, located in East Beach, provides law enforcement services to over 300,000 residents of East Los Santos and its surrounding areas. While serving as Captain, she sponsored several Summer Enforcement Teams and led to a reduction in Part I Crimes throughout the East Los Santos area. She was promoted to Commander in 2012, overseeing the Patrol Operations Division.
Chief Santacruz holds a Master of Business Administration degree from San Diego State University. She lives in Mulholland with her husband and five children.
